Road's End, Book 4 in the Narrow Gate series

Road's End is the exciting fourth book in The Narrow Gate series. Kara and Mathew continue their quest to find the Narrow Gate, but they must first deal with a new threat and come to terms about their feelings for one another.

Sneak Preview:

Chapter One

The happy sound of a girl’s laughter echoed amid the thick growth of lush foliage as Kara sat on the stone bench tucked away in the corner of the conservatory. Bright shafts of sunlight streamed in from the glass ceiling high above, gilding Jax’s silky fur, deepening the red tints in his coat as he leapt and played with a small Stray near a group of apple trees.

Kara smiled as she watched them, thinking how bittersweet the sight was. Since they’d arrived back in the city at Otto’s sanctuary, as Kara had begun to think of it, this girl had never laughed, nor shown any other signs of mirth or pleasure, but now, playing with the fox, her joy seemed real.

Kara felt a now‑familiar stab of guilt run through her, piercing her heart with an unsettling ache. As she watched Maude’s daughter in this rare moment of unguarded happiness, she knew that she herself was ultimately responsible for the child’s usual lack of joy. If she had not fled GateWide when Maude had come to her with her warning, if she had instead stayed and endured becoming one of the Sovereign’s Strays, then Maude would most probably still be alive and the girl would never have become a Stray herself. The girl would never have lost her brothers and sisters to the Sovereign’s cruelty and she would never have learned the brutalities inflicted upon the Strays who served in the House. If not for Kara, the girl would still be a child, with her happiness and joy intact. Instead, she was a wary creature made mature and bitter before her time.

Kara had hoped that since they had been at the sanctuary, and under Otto’s care and protection for several weeks now, the girl would have at least started to come out of her shell and begin to act like a child again. But it seemed that the opposite was true. The girl spent much of her time alone, away from the other Strays and, it seemed lately, in avoidance of Kara herself. The girl often paced from room to room in the enormous sanctuary, frequently hiding in the shadows or going deep into the dense and sheltering foliage of the conservatory to sit for hours in solitude. Only rarely did Kara see her keeping company with anyone, and if she did happen to spend time with someone, it was always with the boy, Jack.

Rescue, book 3 of The Invisible

These gifts make them a target for the forces of evil, and also empower them to be a force for good. These people are called the Invisible.

Connor Jensen hadn’t known how much more there was to the world, until he was able to see what had previously been hidden from him. His journey had started out quite innocuously. He’d been on his way home from work and he’d taken the subway, as usual. It had been Friday evening, and he’d been looking forward to getting home, trading his work suit for a pair of sweats and slumping down in front of the TV for a little rerun time. But then he’d met her and his life had changed forever.

He’d noticed the woman the moment she entered the subway car, and when she took the seat beside him, Connor had been rendered speechless at her beauty. Hers was not the traditional prettiness that so many women cultivated. No, she had something different about her, a beauty which seemed to emanate from inside. Of course, her face and form were gorgeous too, but it was something else that drew Connor to her. Something almost spiritual. She was completely without artifice. She wore no makeup that Connor could see – which, in his experience, was quite unusual for a woman – no nail polish, no cloying perfume, no eye shadow, lipstick or face powder. Yet, she seemed to be spectacularly beautiful to him. Her long blond hair was loose and free around her face, and her blue eyes were clear and happy.

Connor was immediately drawn to her. He sat there beside her, arguing with himself. Should he be bold and ask for her number? Or should he be polite and ignore her presence? He was sure that, with her looks and inner beauty, men asked her for her phone number all of the time. He was still arguing with himself when she spoke.

“Actually, you’d be surprised to know that no one ever asks me for my phone number.”

Her voice was as beautiful as the rest of her, and for a moment her words did not register. He heard only the sweet husky timbre of her voice and he was a little bewildered over the fact that she was talking to him. But then, he realized what she’d said.

“Excuse me?” he asked, trying to be polite.

“You were wondering if you should ask for my phone number, and thinking that it might be rude, since so many other men must have done it before you. Weren’t you?”

Connor nodded dumbly, “Yes, as a matter of fact, I was. But, how did you…?”

“How did I know? Simple. I can read your mind. I can read the mind of almost anyone, really. Most people don’t know the secret of how to protect their thoughts, or even see the need for it at all. And, just for your information, most men don’t ask for my phone number because, quite truthfully, they usually cannot see me. It is quite odd that you can.”

Connor cleared his throat, trying to think of something polite to say. Why was it that, when he finally had the chance to talk to a beautiful woman - one who interested him in a way that he hadn’t been interested in for a very long while - she turned out to be insane?

She laughed. “Don’t worry, I’m not insane. Far from it actually. I don’t know what to call it exactly, but it is definitely not insanity. Perhaps extreme spirituality?”

“You really can read my mind then?”

The woman winked at him, then put a finger to her lips in a motion for him to be quiet. She pointed to several of his fellow passengers, who were all looking at him oddly.

“You’d better stop talking to me, or they will think you are the insane one. You are the only person here who can see me, it seems.”

Experiences in Research - Hackers and the Deep Web for ZERO DAY

Researching Hackers and the Deep Web:
Did you know that my author site was recently hacked? Care to hazard a guess as to why? Well, I can’t be sure, but I think it might have something to do with the research I’ve been doing lately for my newest Suspense book (ZERO DAY, book two in the Sam Stone series). You see, I’ve been doing copious amounts of research on hacking and also on the Deep Web.

Some refer to the Deep Web as the Dark Web, some say that the Dark Web is just a part of the Deep Web, with the Deep Web being the larger whole. No matter what you call it, it’s kind of a scary place! For instance, did you know it is possible to actually buy people on the Dark Web? That's not a typo. PEOPLE! If my research is factual, then it is possible to actually buy a person on the Web. Very creepy!

I'm guessing that someone noticed my research and decided to hack my author site. No worries though, I recovered my data, patched the security holes and blocked a whole slew of IP addresses. (And hey, if you hackers are reading this, that is NOT A CHALLENGE to try again. Please, twice was enough, okay guys? I'm only doing research!!)

The life of an author is never dull!

Experiences in Research - Deep Down, Underground

Let me start by saying that I’m a bit claustrophobic. When I travel, I always look for the exits, and I cannot abide the feeling of being trapped inside a place. So, you can imagine that I really did not want travel 650 feet underground to do research for DEEP DOWN (book one in the Sam Stone series) – but, how else would Stone and Jenny know what being trapped underground felt like? So, I took the plunge and did it.

What starts out as a fun evening soon turns into a dangerous struggle to survive.

In order to protect Jenny, Stone must fall back on his military police training. And even those hard-won skills may not be enough to save the love of his life - and over a hundred other innocent people trapped underground with them.

After the Fall - Prequel to The Narrow Gate - Now FREE!

When she suddenly becomes a Stray, Kara is forced to flee the relative safety of GateWide in order to avoid becoming a slave to the cruel Sovereign. Surrounded by mutated creatures in an unfamiliar environment, Kara soon realizes that many of the things that she thought she knew about the wilderness had been based on lies that had been taught to all the people of GateWide.

Why have the people of the settlement been misled and how will she find the truth with only one small clue to guide her?
